Wonderful progress, everyone! Today I didn't have to find anything to put in the give away box because, for whatever miraculous reason, my husband decided to clean out his drawers and closet. I think his pile will take me until March! Honestly, I didn't ask or nag him! I would like to think that my talking about the blog, your fun comments, etc. spurred him on. Perhaps simplifying is contagious?? Now, about his electronics graveyard...well, that's for another day.
OK....tried to throw away the broken thermostat but Carl wants the children to learn about it so it sits on the kitchen table....Grrrrrr! Into the trash went 1)one of 3 pepper grinders I own - this one a hand-me-down from a neighbor when she moved 2)the 8 travel booklets to guide us through a trip to Maui - back in 2007....never know when you'll go again (guess I can always pick up more next time - they were free!) 3) Two disgusting couch pillows that matched the couch/loveseat we bought 2nd hand (that are now underneath beautiful slipcovers)....sides partially ripped out, stinky - yet Carl's favorite to put behind his back to improve the curve in his recliner. Sorry, Carl. Let's see....that's actually not 3 but 11 items into the trash! Sure do like the motivation this blog provides. Thanks, Heidi!
ReplyDelete1 car visor cd holder into the newly appointed "yard sale" bag. *Cheryl - what a great day! :) Each time I "remove" something - other things continue to be put back, thrown out, sorted, etc. So excited!
ReplyDeleteI started following this blog just to read what others have done, thinking I've moved so many times in the past 9 years and purged with each move that I didn't have that much to get rid of now... well I was wrong I've removed dozens of things in the past several days and today I will add to that "discarded" pile the Christmas "trimmings" I'm taking down. Thanks, Heidi for the blog and I'm proud of Shawn's purging :)
ReplyDeleteToday was a food and file day...at school, I cleaned out a file cabinet and filled one blue recycling container with old papers. At home, I cleaned out the snack cabinet...how many bags of stale chips and crackers do you think I got rid of????? Why can't anyone ever finish a bag fo chips? Later this evening, I will tackle a drawer in the buffet...
ReplyDeleteWell each day is hard for me as I am very attached to my cluttery things. But I remembered a pair of shoes on the deck. They have been "airing out" for about a year now. They got very smelly and I had hoped that if I left them out LONG ENOUGH (ha!) they might smell sweet. Well it has been long enough. They went in the trash. They had some good life left in those soles, but they are just too smelly and I know I will never be able to wear them again. I could have donated them but why would I want someone to get smelly shoes? (even if they do have some life left in them) :)
