In the give away box went two vases we bought as souvenirs on a trip. They were lovely in that country, but I just never used them much here. In the future, I think I will really think hard about what souvenirs I bring home. Will I have a spot for the souvenir? Would a photo be better? Keep up the great work everyone!
souvenirs are always tough. lately i've been trying to get jewelry from the places i go... :)
ReplyDeletetoday i put 2 christmas items into the yard sale box and threw out several items.
I have tons of souvenirs, too, and it is so hard to get rid of them. For the last several years, when I travel, I buy one bottle of hot sauce from the area - something unusual, something local. It always gets used, it is kept in the refrigerator, and it have to be dusted...and I can even toss the empty bottle. Yeah! :o)
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of souvenirs, I still enjoy and share with my students the rock and postcard that you brought me from Pompeii. I am keeping them! Kenna, my collie, chose today's toss items. Many years ago, we brought home two flocked bear ornaments that our children got in Christmas stockings at Snowshoe Ski Resort. I never liked them very much because they were so tacky! One had pink flocking and the other had blue flocking. My youngest daughter loved them and each year put them on our tree. Tonight, my husband came home to find pink and blue flocked plastic bear particles all over the floor. When I showed my daughter the debris, she said, "Oh, sad day." Then she teased, "You didn't do this did you?" Even though I didn't like the look of the bears, they had become endearing because my daughter loved them. I agree with her - sad day.
ReplyDeleteIvy, hot sauce is a great souvenir idea! I will admit I have kept 3 Sprite cans from other countries... Susan, Kenna is helping you more and more, though I'm sorry for your daughter.
ReplyDeleteI had to think about this. We go to Ocean Isle as an extended family each summer. I like to say that we have lived there for half of a year, just one week at a time. We don't really bring a lot of souvenir type items home with us. Glen & I went to Maui three years ago, a company trip. Our only expense was to rent a car to see "The Road to Hana." (See The Road to Hana if you ever have the opportunity.) Here are photos I posted. We picked small inexpensive souvenirs because that is all we could afford. I have really enjoyed a credit card sized leather wallet I got. It is tiny, and just the right size for my license, check card & Kohl's card. I tried to think of something travel related to toss. When I looked at out shelves, I remembered I have promised to loan my South Beach Diet books to a friend. So they are going out the door - "things to lend to other people." Hot sauce - what an absolutely fabulous idea!!
