Today I wrestled with what to clear out. I chose a perfectly good little duffle bag we got years ago at a Richmond Braves game, but no one uses it anymore. I also grabbed a decorator flag that will be nice for someone. Both items are in good shape, and there's always the thought that "I
might use it again;" however, I also realized that I haven't used either in a long time and they might benefit someone else much more. It's difficult to get rid of "good" stuff.
I would say "good stuff" that is my biggest problem. I have lots of stuff that is "good stuff". I am always "gonna sell it on eBay" or whatever. I have done that...but not enough. I am going to try to stay more committed to this blog so that I will be held accountable for getting rid of something every day. In the past two days I did clear out some miniscule clutter (went through my purse and threw away receipts), went through newspapers and got rid of stuff in them) plus the newspapers themselves but nothing that would "count" if we are looking at the big picture. I was encouraged several days ago about the poster who wrote that she can actually see a difference. That is a very helpful and hopeful statement. So I say, "Good job ladies" (and men if there are followers) and "Keep at it" to us all.
ReplyDeleteAnother way to look at simplifying -rather than just getting rid of stuff - is to not acquire new stuff. Now, when I go shopping I say to myself, "Do I really need another sweater that is really, really on sale?" NO "Do I really need another pair of black slacks that are really, really on sale?" NO "Do I really need to bring that plastic sppon home from Capt. D's" NO It is good to see some vacant space. Now I just need to keep myself from expanding to fit that space! :o)
ReplyDeleteSusan, I'm glad you are feeling motivated. We'll all encourage each other.
ReplyDeleteIvy, I've become the same way, not wanting to add unnecessary items to my house. I haven't gotten home from NOT buying anything and regretted it.
put one puzzle in the give-away box! :)
