Day 24: Formal Wear
Each year my husband and I attend a formal event in town which requires a formal gown/dress for me. I know it's weird, but I would rather get teeth pulled than shop for a formal. I don't like the cost, the low cuts, knowing whether to get another black one or go with a color, etc. For the past few years, I've just reused the ones I had accumulated. However, it was time to shop again yesterday. I did find a nice dress after realizing that my others were looking a bit dated. So, at least one of the older gowns is going into the Goodwill box and perhaps I'll get rid of more.

Thank goodness I don't have that problem! I can't even remember the last time I had to dress 'formally'. I will have to purchase a "mother-of-the-bride" dress soon though...uugghhh...not the wedding...buying something I will only wear once...I'm going back down into the basement today and pop the tops on some more Rubbermaid containers. My husband is right...I have way too many clothes!
ReplyDeleteIvy, I knew that I had a Rubbermaid container at the top of my closet that I hadn't looked through in awhile. It was like Christmas when I opened it. I found a nice snowman sweater vest and a pretty (although itchy) lambswool sweater that I had forgotten about. Sadly there was a favorite snowman sweater that some insect found delicious - it had holes all through it. That's my toss item for today.
ReplyDeleteHeidi, I agree with your thoughts about formal dresses. Over the holidays, Jennifer and Catherine laughed to see that I still had the beautiful dresses that I bought for them for my sister's wedding in 1993 hanging in the guest room closet. Jennifer was 10 and Catherine was 1!
Susan, in one of the tubs, I found a wool sweater that I bought in Norway when I was 16 years old...I will be 54 in 6 days... I was happy to see that the moths had not found it. My older daughter is half German and I found all of her little dirndl dresses, their aprons and blouses. It was good to see all those sentimental treasures. I got rid of some 'less special' items and packed those back in the Rubbermaid container. Sometimes it is amazing what you pack away and TOTALLY forget about. I took 6 bags of stuff to Goowill today...and a bamboo shelf...
