This morning I glanced around, having had a busy evening last night that prevented me from simplifying. I looked in a room I felt I'd combed through quite well, then my eyes fell on a sewing basket. In it was odds and ends of leftover elastic, upholstery tacks, curtain rings, ribbon, etc. I quickly sorted to keep anything of reasonable length, put some things in the give away bin (tacks, curtain rings), and threw out the small pieces. Embarrassing as it is, I once went through a very frugal stage of cutting the elastic off holey underwear and reusing it in sewing projects. I don't have to resort to that anymore. :)
Sometimes knowing that hidden places are simplified is also freeing!
Be sure to read people's comments. They are very encouraging to our commitment to simplify!
*Heidi - I love the elastic story - that is funny and a very good idea!
ReplyDelete*Cheryl - you must feel so good from all the work you are doing!! Enjoy it!
I am trying to find new homes for two fairly large items in my house. First is the George Foreman Grill. I finally made space for it today by cleaning and reorganizing some basement storage shelves. Next I need a new home for my vacuum cleaner or the birdseed bags that my husband put where the vacuum cleaner normally goes! (sigh...)
In the process I put 3 items in the give-away box. 2 of the items were part of a cream and sugar set that I bought at a yard sale 2 years ago to sell on ebay. They did not sell, but I liked them so much (they are so cute) that I let them sit in my basement all this time. Why is the decision making so hard sometimes? I don't entertain enough to use the cute creamer and sugar, and I don't have enough space to display all the cute stuff I like. I need to learn to make decisions about what to do with items faster!
