Today I put two grapefruit spoons in the give away bin. I normally cut around each section with a knife and they come out easily with a regular spoon, so why keep them?
I've found that specialty gadgets sometimes just take up space when a more multi-purpose tool would suffice. That thought helps me simplify in the kitchen.
I was trying to decide where to simplify today! Thanks for the tip. I'll go check out the kitchen gadget drawer and I can do that while everyone is still sleeping. Yeah! :o)
ReplyDeleteThat was quick and painless. How many big plastic slotted spoons should one have??? Even if I kept one per person who lives here, I could get rid of half of the ones I found in the 3 gadget drawers. One bag of kitchen gadgets tied up and in the Explorer ready for Goodwill. ---and then there were the nut picks...7 of them...granted they are small, but where did I even get 7 nut picks???????
ReplyDeleteMy but you ladies are up early - even when there is no school!!! I don't know how you do it! Haven't posted much d/t being out of state for a wedding, working, etc. Now, after a day of "recovery", today's my day. I should have taken a "before" picture of my dining room shelves like Julie did.....just imagine 3 times as many shelves as hers looking 3 times worse. Seriously. Well, today I have all the shelves organized and all the junk from in front of them is gone, all in piles organized to either be put away or given away, the rest in the trash. I've been working on it little by little since we started....Heidi, there's your "progress" note....and even though Carl came back from travel I did not let him touch my piles. So, here on day 33 my first large goal is accomplished. I'll try to get a picture posted here, too. Even an "after" is better than no photo at all. I still need to finish putting everything away in the basement in its organized boxes, but at least I KNOW where they are going!!! Working the next 5 days so next week I will attack a new area. Stay tuned!

ReplyDeleteOK. Trying to figure out how to get my photo posted....guess it's now my profile photo ;-)
ReplyDelete*cheryl! those shelves look GREAT! I still have not started on my very last shelf to organize! :( hopefully soon!
ReplyDelete*simplify - I use my grapefruit spoons every day! They're not just for grapefuits! :) I use them for when I need a spoon that I won't put in my mouth - like spooning out jelly or squeezing out a teabag. It leaves the regular spoons available for using in cereal, ice cream, etc. (Makes it so I don't run out of spoons before I run the dishwasher!) :)
*Today I put 9 things in the yard sale pile box, 2 things in the give away box and threw away a poster.
Julie, I should have asked for advice about the grapefruit spoons! That's a great idea. But...they are still going away. Wow, 12 items in one day...priceless!
ReplyDeleteCheryl, wonderful pic of the shelves!!
Ivy, you make me laugh. I think slotted spoons multiply on their own. And yes, 7 nut picks is a bit excessive. Great job!
well, scratch the twelve items...one daughter took a stuffed animal right out of the give-away box!!! :) Evidently I didn't get permission from teh right daughter to give away that particular animal.
ReplyDeletebut - I can add 1 item listed on ebay tonight...so back up to 13! :)
LOL! My daughter would go through EVERYTHING I give away - I have to put it in black trash bags or in opaque boxes with lids. Otherwise I may be back in the same situation again with too much junk!! You oughta see her room! That may be a whole other year....!
