I found that I had an entire set of extra dipping dishes for olive oil/bread in the back of a cupboard. We rarely use the one set. I, of course, struggled...well, what if I want to serve the bread and dipping oil to 8 guests? Then common sense took over and I tried to remember the last time I had 8 guests for a regular dinner. Yes, some random day I may regret it, but if I am going to simplify my life for the majority of days, some extras need to go.
Julie, my daughter hates change, too. It's interesting how kids, deep down, want those consistencies. I think your idea of letter her choose a few lighthouses to keep is good.
ReplyDeleteInteresting....my daughter was cleaning her room yesterday (without being asked) and came out with a box and several other things that are "clogging up" her closet. So, into the trash is going one broken, well-worn doll buggy; into the give-away box several barbies and accessories, polly pockets and 2 houses ;-)
ReplyDeleteCheryl, she's learning from your success!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny.....she doesn't even know about my "Simplifying" and the goal for one per day. I guess she is just seeing me model the cleaning/organizing process.
ReplyDeleteTwo articles of clothing into the give-away box. My oldest daughter moved out last fall under not the greatest of circumstances. Thankfully, she has moved back home this week...but has brought with her more than the number of things that I have released this year so far in our simplifying process...Lord, help me!!! I'm trying to keep calm and sane - breathe in, breathe out. Goodwill, here I come again!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about your post from a couple weeks ago about getting rid of the stuff surrounding grief. So I finally got rid of a broken clock that I have been keeping solely because my Dad gave it to me.
ReplyDeleteThe clock is NOT the memory.
Thanks for all you do!
