The majority of our efforts have been to get rid of stuff in our homes, simplifying our lives. I also think time commitments should be simplified when possible.
For years, when I was a stay-home mom, I was bombarded with offers for volunteerism. It became overwhelming because I had difficulty saying no. When I went back to work full time, it was almost a breath of fresh air because I had only one big commitment outside of the home instead of five. Now that my children are almost all gone, I'm going to have to be careful to what commitments I take on.
Some commitments, such as being a PTA mom, are ending soon for me, naturally. With others, I am considering bowing out gracefully. When we have our minds going too many places, we realize we're ineffective in most of them.
Today, think about your commitments to volunteering, organizations, etc. Is it time to simplify?
It's funny that you should write about commitments. I just agreed to help out with a local community play - 3 rehearsals a week! But, in general, my commitments have dropped dramatically since my youngest daughter joined a travel soccer team. It's actually been a nice break. The play will be performed at the end of May - so at least this commitment has a beginning and definite end. Again, Heidi, good things to think about!
