Have you ever been to a bridal or baby shower when the guest of honor takes FOREVER opening her gifts, because she slits the tape carefully in order to save the wrapping paper? I applaud those ladies for their frugality, and am sure they spent minimally on wrapping paper for a couple years, but we have to be wise in what we save.
Nowadays, gift bags are the popular item. It is REALLY hard to get rid of a good gift bag, especially if you have seen the $4.00 price tag. Being a teacher, I have been blessed with many. A couple years ago, my teen daughter's task was to sort all my saved bags into Christmas and general holiday. There are a LOT. I try to reuse, but there are still A LOT. I'm going to continue regifting them, but have thrown out some that I probably won't use for anyone else.
So, to conclude, do you have any saved wrapping paper that is past three years old? Consider ditching it.
We are clearing out my mom's house of clutter in order to sell it and she had a (very neatly organized) large area that she had put metal tins, about 18 rolls of wrapping paper, flat wrap, ribbons of all descriptions, etc. Four 3' shelves. What did we do? We put it all in boxes and put it out by the sidewalk for a "free yardsale" up at her house. Gave it away. when I got home, what did I do? I took my 2 huge boxes of wrapping paper, gift bags, ribbons, and one full shelf of boxes and culled down to one small box of wrap and bags a couple of gift boxes, plus a small box of curling ribbon. I threw away or gave away a huge amount. If I don't do it now, my kids will be having to do it someday and have a "free yardsale" or run to the dump with all my stuff.
ReplyDelete*Heidi and Susan ~ funny timing. I often buy new gift bags at yard sales. Bought a few this weekend (6 new Hallmark bags and 5 new Hallmark bows for $2!) However, my wrapping paper area desparately needs to be reorganized. The girls and I often just "throw" wrapping stuff back into the box haphazardly - often ruining tissue paper, wrapping paper and bags in our hurried life. As I was returning home from "yard saling" I decided I really need to focus some attention on my wrapping paper/gift bag storage area! Now you both have inspired me to try to get that done this week!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I have been gone for so long! The end of spring break was busy and time really got away from me. I simplified on Sunday and that's it for the past about 5 days!
Hopefully I'll be back on track today. I typed 2 recipes into my computer cookbook folder. Threw out the two "paper" recipes.
