Day 109: Your Life Comes Down to $.25

One of my friends had an epiphany this past week. She and her siblings have been clearing out her deceased mother's home in order to sell it. Sorting through all the items has been emotionally and physically draining. She donated a large amount of items to a church for their yard sale. When she went later to see how things were selling, she saw the ".25" tag on many of her mom's items. It hit her that our acculmulation of "stuff" comes down to being worth .25 in others' eyes.

We had a good discussion about not leaving so much for our kids to go through, simplifying our lives as we go. The stuff that is sentimental to us means nothing to others. It's a helpful mindset when we are clearing out things from our own homes.

I am sorting through some teaching tools I had twenty years ago. If I haven't used them, they're being thrown out.

  1. I read this post earlier in the day yesterday and never got back to respond. Just wanted you to know that it was thought provoking and just good to sit and think on for a while. Sometimes, when I'm pricing things to have a yard sale and I'm putting $.10, $.25, $.50 on things - it strikes me as ironic that I held on to something for more than a year just so that I could sell it for 25 cents???? I think that perspective is the word to ponder concerning this area - and then maybe pray to find it! :) Thanks for the thoughts!
