The gift of creativity can be a ball and chain in our quest to simplify our lives. Creative people often have lots more ideas than they have time. We collect items to use in our creative pursuits. Those materials sit and sit somewhere in our house until we "find" the time to create. Unfortunately, that time doesn't usually present itself and we collect and collect more stuff. "I can make that into..."
I have simplified my head and my house by getting rid of well-meaning projects because at this phase of my life, I just don't have time to finish them. It really has made me feel free.
I have a number of partially begun crocheting and knitting projects that my mom started before she passed away in 1980. Over the years, I finished a few projects including a baby afghan. She died before I had any children, so finishing that project was especially meaningful. I haven't brought any craft/sewing/crochet supplies over from the other house yet. It's amazing how easy it is to live without a lot of the stuff that is still at the other house.
ReplyDeleteI threw away some broken and faded flower pots that I found in the outside shed at the other house.
Susan - that is soooo sweet that you were able to finish the baby afghan that your mother began. What a fantastic keepsake!! I love it!
